AVOID BEING A REALTOR IF YOU CAN’T MEET THESE FIVE CRITERIA.
Do you know that about 70 to 80% of Realtors usually quit the business after 24 – 30 months as a result of things like sales drought? Sales drought is inability to close deals with the resultant effect of not earning commissions.
It is therefore pertinent to note the following before making up your mind to be a Realtor.
- DO NOT BECOME A REALTOR IF YOU ARE LAZY.
If you are joining the real estate business because you think you saw other realtors who made real money, qualified for cars or even a mansion in a good location or all expense paid trips overseas, then you might be illusory.
If you are lazy, do not join real estate business. It is not for people who think that making money there is easy-peasy. You are mistaken if you think you can make money being a Realtor without hard work and valuable skillset.
In fact, the reason why many Realtors or some Realtors are not making money is because of the misconception that it is a stress-free work with minimal input.
If you are not making money as a Realtor, you’ve probably not put enough efforts to turn the table around and as popularly said in the local parlance; “no be your village people dey do you”, it is your self sabotage and inner habits that are working against you to deter you from achieving your goals.
- DO NOT BECOME A REALTOR IF YOU ARE IMPATIENT
Real Estate Business is not for people who are impatient. Patience pays when you take time to learn the secret of the trade and patiently work your way to success. Real Estate business is not what you earn immediately or every week or every month.
As a newbie, it may take you weeks or several months before you make your first money or close your first deal. This doesn’t mean you won’t start making money regularly if you have eventually done all the needful and acquired the necessary skillset to be able to succeed as a Realtor.
- DO NOT BECOME A REALTOR IF YOU ARE A LONE RANGER.
You are in for a very long painful journey in the real estate business if you come in with the mindset of; I have a background in Law, Sales and Marketing, Digital Marketing or I was a Network Marketer in ABC Company.
You are in a for a painful surprise if you are not willing to humble yourself and learn through coaching and mentoring by people ahead of you, be a team player and learn how to work with others. Attend training and go for site inspections and most importantly equip yourself with product knowledge.
Real Estate is not medicine and surgery or that field you are coming from. You may not make any dime in real estate if you are a “Do-it- yourself person”. Stagnation is guaranteed if the necessary steps are not taken.
- DO NOT BE A REALTOR IF YOU GIVE UP TOO EASILY
You should better remain in your 9am-5pm job and be with your boss if you’d quit so easily as a Realtor based on disappointments. In the Real Estate Business, you will face so many “nos”, “I will get back to you” that won’t lead to a sale or deal closing. You will face many embarrassing moments, tough and challenging times in the course of legitimately discharging your duty. Resilience is the key!
Don’t let it shock you when you see someone that smiles with you in real life but ended up blocking you online, it comes with the business. You must be able to have confidence, emotional stability or rather mental toughness to say “I will not be discouraged”, “I will keep showing up everyday till I get the desired results”.
- DO NOT BECOME A REALTOR IF YOU LACK INITIATIVE
If you lack initiative and drive, real estate business is not for you. If you need someone to always kick your butt before doing the needful or you, then you are in for a disappointment. Suffice it to say that you must not be the type that will always wait for someone to prompt you to embrace your responsibilities or for a boss that will breathe down your neck before you sit up otherwise your success in the business will remain in the realms of miracle.
As a Realtor, you are a BUSINESS OWNER and ENTREPRENEUR. Your Path to success or failure is up to you entirely.
If you are willing to do what most people are not ready to do and pay the price, there are massive opportunities for you in the Real Estate business. The reverse is the case if you are not properly equipped.
